Liposuction For Men

Male Body Liposuction

Taut, Trim & Buffed

The technique of liposuction is the same for either a man or a woman.

Just like a woman, men can accumulate extra areas of fat in their abdomen, lovehandles, chest and chin.

For some people it just doesn’t matter how much exercise or dieting they do, some ‘fatty areas’ just do not budge.

Areas that affect men more commonly are

  • love handles
  • stomach
  • chest
  • neck

Typically, all areas of the body with excess fat deposits can be removed in a single procedure through small, inconspicuous incisions, even if multiple areas are treated.  Most men can return to work within a few days to a week after their treatment.

The best candidates for liposuction are those in good general health and relatively within normal healthy weight limits.

Liposuction is NEVER a substitute for healthy eating and normal exercise!

Abdomen

The beer gut or potbelly’ is a common area for male liposuction. The fat in this area can be difficult to ‘work off’ and can sometimes be a genetic trait that is completely unavoidable. Even though liposuction won’t help to shed lots of weight, it’s still ideal for helping to achieve a better body shape.

Any fat that you can pinch can realistically be removed by liposuction.  If the abdomen is tight and is difficult to pinch, this usually means the fat is sitting behind your muscle wall and surrounding your organs like the bowel and liver.  This cannot be removed with liposuction. This can be explained at a cosmetic consultation with one of our nurses.

As the ‘tummy’ / abdomen fat expands, so usually does the flanks / lovehandles and back fat. Liposuction in most cases can help re shape your abdomen

Love Handles

A popular target zone for men is the love handles. These are the fat deposits that sit at the sides of your abdomen and are notoriously hard to get rid of even with rigorous exercise.  It is common for men who are of normal to below normal weight to have this problem.  Lovehandles can be treated either alone or in combination with the abdomen.

Chest – ‘man boobs’

What is Gynecomastia?

  • the medical term for enlarged male breasts / chest
  • a common condition that affects more men than you’d think and can often give many men a complex about their masculinity.
  • Gynecomastia can become obvious any time throughout a man’s life from boyhood to middle age
  • is usually the result of excess fat being stored in the breast /chest region, sometimes in combination with breast tissue behind the nipple
  • Best of all, it can be treated quickly with a liposuction procedure

See the Treatments for Men section for more information about Gynecomastia.

FAQs

Can I claim my liposuction through Medicare?

The only liposuction which presently has a Medicare rebate is female breast reduction. However in some circumstances when the government department has approved the case, a small rebate may be possible for male chest liposuction.

Do I have to wear a compression garment?

All patients who have a liposuction are required to wear a compression garment as this helps the skin to re-adhere in the correct position and helps with skin retraction.

How painful is liposuction?

Any discomfort is usually reflective of the area(s) treated. A chin liposuction is not as uncomfortable as a chest liposuction. It is normal for bruising and swelling for one to two weeks and most patients explain the discomfort as being like a hard work out at the gym or being punched a few times.
