Chin, Neck & Jowls

Rejuvenate Your Face

Liposuction of the chin, neck and jowls can dramatically improve a person’s appearance and confidence, and it is suitable for both men and women!

Did you know?

  • Chin liposuction can be performed on the Chin, Neck & Jowls (a fat pad from the lower cheek)
  • Chin liposuction only removes a small amount of fat, yet can create a dramatic effect.
  • Fullness / a fatty chin can cause the face and neck to be seen as one unit which is interpreted by our eye as a sign of ageing.
  • Frequently it can occur from an early age, indicating a genetic tendency. But for most the signs usually occur over time with age, and no matter how much weight is lost, the areas remain the same. Some patients may not be particularly overweight.
  • In these circumstances correcting the balance of the face and returning a firm defined jaw line can take years of a person’s age whether male or female.

The Procedure

Chin liposuction is a relatively simple procedure and is usually performed under local anaesthetic in our Armadale theatre. Most patients are comfortable without any oral sedation to relax them, while others may want a ‘relaxant’ to settle their nerves. In these cases, patients must NOT drive home,  but organize a friend to take them home. As Chin liposuction is minimally non-invasive, it only requires three tiny (0.5mm) holes under the chin jaw line. Dr Rich uses tumescent fluid to numb the area and soften the fat for easy suctioning. As there is minimal fat in these areas, the technique is as much about skillful sculpting to get good skin retraction and skin tightening to give the areas a much more defined result, unlike Lipodissolve which merely removes fat.

Recovery Process

  • Minimal bruising and swelling is normal after this procedure and usually settles within seven to fourteen days.
  • It is necessary to wear a compression chin garment immediately after the procedure and then for the first two weeks part time to ensure good retraction. However it does not restrict you going to get a paper or leaving it off for a short period if necessary.
  • Most patients return to work on Monday and then wear their garment in the evening and over night for two weeks; this ensures good skin retraction and better results.

Considerations

Same as before.

Risks and Complications

There is a minimal risk of infection at the puncture sites. This risk is reduced by the anti-bacterial action of the infused liquid and prophylactic antibiotics, which are given prior to and after the procedure.

FAQs

What are jowls? Jowls are the fat pads that originally are situated higher on the cheeks but with time and gravity fall to the jaw line creating a thickened area. The visible loss of definition of the jaw line and flesh hanging from the jaw or throat is commonly referred to as the jowl area or jowls. Can I wear make-up after the procedure? Make up can worn to the face immediately after the procedure to cover any minimal bruising. The tiny holes must be kept clean. What causes a double chin? Over time the loosening of skin, and the accumulation of fat under the chin may cause what is know as a double chin.
