Thermage is performed with a radiofrequency device called a ThermaCool system. This device delivers a special form of radiofrequency (RF) that tightens your skin and underlying tissue, which then pulls out wrinkles and tightens loose skin.
Unlike surgical skin tightening procedures, the Thermage procedure involves NO surgical incisions, NO recovery time, or surgical implications.
How does Thermage it work?
Thermage uses a ThermaTip device that uniformly heats a large volume of collagen in the deeper layers of the skin and its underlying tissue with a regulated dose of radiofrequency, while simultaneously protecting the outer layer of the skin with cooling.
During the treatment, the patient usually experiences a sensation of deep heat (similar to a warm to hot pin prick) that lasts for only a few seconds.
The temperature rise that occurs within the deep layers of the skin causes an immediate contraction (shrinkage) of collagen fibers that may result in an immediate tightening of the skin in a third of the patients. The on-going effects of the treatment are a gradual collagen tightening, and production of new collagen that continues over the next 6 months. This results in healthier, smooth skin and a more youthful appearance.
