Our appearance can greatly impact on how we feel about ourselves and how others react to us. Commonly, most of the changes we attribute to ageing are in fact caused by sun damage. Sun damage causes harm to the vital collagen fibers of the skin, resulting in a loss in skin support and changes in the skins texture and tone. Sun exposure can also contribute to open / broken blood vessels to the face resulting in an increased red complexion or fine lines, wrinkles and enlarged pores.
The RevLite™is the next generation of Q-switch ND: YAG laser technology. It is a multi-purpose, multi-wavelength aesthetic medical laser that offers maximum power and versatility for a broad range of indications on all skin types.
RevLite™ utilizes an extremely high-speed shutter to produce nanosecond pulse widths, enabling highly effective procedures with less heat and increased safety. Featuring the Photo Acoustic Technology Pulse™, the RevLite™ delivers very narrow pulse widths at peak energy, even at larger spot sizes. The speed and power of RevLite™ can create a superior Photo Acoustic rejuvenation effect, including a more refreshed appearance, decreased redness, a reduction in fine lines and wrinkles and collagen stimulation.
RevLite Photo Acoustic can also be used in conjunction with other procedures to enhance results. Treatments such as:
- Chemical peels – Improves skin texture and controls acne.
- Crystal Microdermabrasion – Exfoliates the skin, leaving you with a smoother appearance.
- XPL (Xenon Pulsed Light) – Improves the appearance of pigmentation and open capillaries caused from sun damage.
- Affirm – Stimulates and builds new collagen, creating more body and firmness to your skin.
- enRich skin care products – Developed by Dr Rich for anti ageing.
After an assessment of your skin, the appropriate treatment plan is decided.
The skin is first cleansed with Poly Hydroxy Acid to remove any dirt and oils. RevLite Photo Acoustic therapy is generally not painful. Many describe the feeling as a tingling sensation. Generally 4 to 6 passes are delivered to the treatment area. Immediately after your treatment you will appear slightly red, you may also experience a warm tingling sensation and some mild swelling. This may last from half an hour up to 2 hours. Anesthesia is usually not necessary.
Treatments take approximately 30 minutes to perform and patients are advised that multiple treatments (three to eight treatments at fortnightly intervals) may be necessary to achieve the optimal results.
As Photo Acoustic Therapy is a non-ablative procedure, which means the skin is NOT removed, it enables patients to have their treatment with little if any ‘downtime’ away from their normal activities. In most cases patients are able to resume work and social activities straight away.
After treatment with the RevLite, some initial redness and or swelling is normal so ice can be immediately applied to limit this effect. Any residual swelling and redness usually settles within a few hours. In most treatments scabbing and bruising are rare, however if they do occur it may take up to ten days for them to subside.
It is possible for some patients to experience mild acne or ‘whiteheads’ a few days after your procedure, we will supply you with samples of topical lotions and prescriptions to decrease this.
Patients must agree to refrain from sun exposure or solariums for two weeks after treatment. Failure to comply with any post-treatment skin care instructions may increase the chance of complications. Consideration should be made when arranging all appointments before any social events.
Risks and Complications
More severe redness, swelling, and scabbing are all possible when using lasers, however they are all usually temporary, and if occur should settle within a few weeks. Other problems such as Hypo-pigmentation (lightening of the skin) and Hyper-pigmentation (darkening of the skin) although rare, are possible risks and complications of these procedures.
